Need to connect VB6 to your Team Foundation Server?

I was working with Dave Scruggs tonight (doing a webcam chat, thankyouverymuch). He had installed Team Explorer and the MSSCCI Provider for VB6. But, he couldn't find the menu option in VB6 to add his project to source code control on the foundation server.

I did a quick search of the Team Foundation Server section of the MSDN Forums and found the answer:

Edit VBADDIN.INI (Start -> Run: VBADDIN.INI (it's in the WINDOWS directory))

Add the line VBSCC=3

That's it.

See forum post http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=464949&SiteID=1 for all the gory details.

Notes to myself on how to set up Remote Desktop Connection to my VPC image...

    This worked for me.

In VPC Settings on HOST PC....

If the VPC needs to get to the Internet, select

    Adapter 1: Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Net…. [My wireless card]

  • In the VPC itself, simply default to
  • Obtain IP automatically
  • Obtain DNS automatically
  • If the VPC does not need to get to the internet

  • Adapter 1: Loopback Adapter
  • In the VPC itself, set the IP address to 10.0.0.5 (or something)
  • And set the mask to 255.255.255.0
  • In the VPC image, need to ensure Remote Desktop and File and Printer Sharing are enabled

In VPC image Make sure these services are started (change them to Automatic if they're not already)

In VPC image, run gpedit.msc (Group Policy snap in) "Set rules for remote control of Terminal Services user sessions"

Still in Group Policy snap in, "Allow users to connect remotely using Terminal Services"

Get the IP address from the VPC image and use that in the Remote Desktop Connection

Note: there's one more Terminal Services setting you have to set or you'll receive the following error message:

I didn't capture the dialog box image, and I don't remember exactly which setting it was, but it most likely was the "Allow log on through Terminal Services" setting. I'll update the blog post after I set up the next VPC image.

    Remote Desktop Keyboard Shortcuts

  • To get into / out of full screen mode: CTRL+ALT+BREAK

Communications

Someone gave me a webcam today. Didn't ask for it, but I'm glad to have it. I'd been looking at them at the store last week. Almost bought one, too. (The LifeCam NX-6000. It's a sweet looking piece of hardware, takes 2.0 Megapixel videos and 8 Megapixel still shots.) But I didn't. I guess procrastination sometimes isn't a bad thing. The image on the Webcam I was given isn't the best in the world, but it will do for now.

I did buy a Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 headset though. And I'm amazed at the sound quality, and the noise-canceling microphone does an excellent job. (One question: what in the world is "leatherette"? The ear pads are made out of "leatherette".)

So now I can do video conferencing with my co-workers. The PC-to-PC VOIP works great.

In a couple of weeks I'll probably go ahead and get the NX-6000 Webcam.
